First on Monday 11th July, Antonio Conte resumed as Chelsea’s boss, then on Thursday 14th July, the 46 year old Italian gave his first British press conference as he prepares to start his title challenge against Westham.
Down to European transfer news,this week witnessed the completion of major transfer deals. Bournemouth signed Jordan Ibe from Liverpool for a record fee of £15million. Barcelona completed the signing of both Lucas Digne and Umtiti from PSG and Lyon respectively. The former is a 22 year old left back signed for a deal worth around £16.5 million, while the latter is a 22year old centre back signed for £25million. Also, A.S Roma completed a loan deal for Juan Jesus. The 25 year old defender was signed from Inter Milan for a fee of €2million.
Down to the international scene, This week witnessed the sack of Belgium national team head coach Marc Wilmot due to a non-satisfactory performance at the European tournament while Portugal continued to celebrate their victory over France.
Also Nigeria dropped down to 70th in the World and 17th in the continent in the recently released Fifa ranking, after a poor run of form in recent years. Argentina maintained their number one spot while European Champions Portugal move up to 6th. Algeria maintained their topflight in Africa, followed closely by Ivory Coast and then Ghana.
