Former Super Eagles boss Stephen Keshi was finally led to rest on Thursday 28 July in Benin City Nigeria. The African legend who died on June 8, 2016 had his burial rites performed in Edo and Delta State. It was a great loss for Nigeria and Africa at large as members of his family received lot of condolences from top dignitaries.
Down to English Premier league, Leicester’s duo Wes Morgan and Andy King extended their stay in the club by signing new contracts. 32 year old defender Morgan extended his stay till 2019 while 27 year old Andy King signed a new four year deal. The deals were signed few days after Leceister city won Celtic 6-5 on penalties following a full time 1-1 draw in the International Champions Cup.
Arsenal’s Per Mertesacker picked up a serious injury that would sideline him for few months. The club’s captain is said to be out for at least 3months due to the extent of the injury. The implication of the injury is that it has left Arsene Wenger in the search of a new defender.
Still with Arsenal, Arsenal’s €35million bid for 25 year old Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette got rejected few days after Wenger declared a striker as his major priority.
Also, Pogba’s supposed World record fee is still not sealed yet. The 23 year old France International is still yet to complete his over €100million deal to Manchester United.
Down to Spain, Barcelona completed the signing of Portuguese midfielder Andre Gomes. The 22 year old Euro 2016 winner was signed for €55million from Valencia on a five year deal. Also, Brazil International Striker Alexandre Pato has joined Villarreal from Corinthians. The 26 year old completed the deal on Tuesday for an undisclosed fee after spending the second half of last season on loan at Chelsea.
Now to Germany, Bastian Schweinsteger on Friday, announced his retirement from International football. He had 120cap for his country with which winning the 2014 World cup was his most glorious moment.
Also, few days after Borrusia Dortmund’s 4-1 pre-season thrashing of Chelsea. They lost on penalties to Manchester City after a 1-1 full time draw.
Down to Italy, Gonzalo Higuain completed a €90million from Napoli to Juventus on Tuesday. The 28 year old Argentine striker became the World’s third most expensive player after completing his five year deal.
Also, the Italian Football Federation announced Giampero Ventura as new Italian head coach following a five year spell with Torino. The 68 year old pledges to continue the good work of his predecessor Antonio Conte.
Finally, Lazio recently signed 26 year old striker Ciro Immobile from Sevilla. The former Borrusia Dortmund’s striker completed his deal after spending the second half of last season on loan with Torino.
